Reaching Deaf Youth with the Hope of Jesus

My name is Lindsay and I have the privilege of being a full-time missionary to Deaf and hard of hearing teenagers, in St. Augustine, Florida. I have been volunteering at Florida School for the Deaf and Blind (FSDB) since 2015, sharing the gospel in various ways. Then, God called me to be a full-time missionary to these same teenagers through a program called “Deaf Teen Quest,” which is a branch of Youth for Christ.

I have a passion to reach these lost youth with the Gospel through building relationships and showing them they are loved. These teenagers are bussed from all over the state of Florida to attend this school and live in dorms Monday through Friday away from their families. I volunteer after school to help with homework, play games, host crafts, and eat dinner with them during the week. I also attend their school activities such as dramas, sporting events, etc!

I host a weekly program, much like a youth group, that shares the gospel and teaches students the truth from God’s Word in their heart language, American Sign Language (ASL)! I equip other leaders to do the same, so together we can reach more students for the Lord. I recently began a Bible study to go deeper with those who hunger for more! We also take a group of students to a Christian camp to deepen our student-leaders relationships and help students grow closer to God or commit their lives to Him.
